What’s in your Pockets?

Be sure to check out our latest addition: The What’s in your Pockets page. I have always enjoyed asking other firefighters what they carry in their pockets, and why they decided to carry each different item. Everyone is encouraged to send in pictures and or descriptions of what they carry and why. Normally each item has a story or reason. It should be interesting to hear everyone’s input. –Jimm-

Here is a pair of channel lock pliers that have been modified to be used as a key tool. Check out the new page for a description of this handy tool.

    Jimm,

I must admit that the personal innovations of our profession never cease to amaze me! Our fellow brethren continuously find ways to make the job a little easier. That’s what makes this profession, one of the finest trades amongst modern day society. I have always said, “Put a firefighter in a room with no windows, doors, or other available openings – and they find a way out!” Meaning, give them the opportunity to be creative and they’ll create the right tools from which they personally possess.

    Stay safe…

I do not see any description of what this tool is used for. The plyers are used to activate locks once the cylinders are pulled. The slotted side is for Rim locks the bent side is for Mortise locks. The bend on the tool should face in not out.

Not trying to question what you said, just trying to learn. Why should the bend face in instead of out?
