Free Hand

Paul Ashton from Winter Park (FL) Truck 61 came up with this tool carrying method. This particular method allows for two tools (halligan and rotary saw) to be carried with only one hand. The halligan is put in place by simply placing the adz on top of the blade guard with the pike along the side of the guard. The handle of the halligan then rests on top of the saw motor housing. The vibration springs on the handle hold enough downward pressure on the halligan to hold it in place. As mentioned earlier this method works well when carrying the saw by hand and will not work with a saw slung over the shoulder. There are many situations when a rotary saw and a halligan are needed together, this method frees up a hand to carry other tools. It may not work with different brands of saws, but works well with the Partner 950/960 series as shown in the photos.

This is a great idea and great site. I will show this to the guys in the morning. Its good to see guys with 950 saws, too oftern you see 650 saws.

That is awsome. We are always tryin to come up with new ways to carry tools. With a 110′ stick it can get alittle rough when you get to the tip.

Great idea by Paul. Just don’t let him try to explain it. You won’t understand the “Queen’s English”!

    brickcity1306,
That line only works in bars! You know how many women Ive picked up with that??…..None…not one..:(

    brickcity,

I bet you even remembered to strategically drop the sledge so as to pull the meter as well. Way to make the grab, too!

Seriously, though, we were able to kind of rig this up with our echo saw. Our rotary saws are either boxy Stihls or an ancient Partner 1200, so the haligan doesn’t fit in as well. With the echo, you just have to carry it by the halligan. Good tip, though.

Maybe you need to make them easier to pickup; perhaps by freeing up one hand by attaching the woman to a saw?

DEMAN,, it does not work for you because you are an ugly mother f%c$er and I am a drop dead sexy beast!!! LOL,, and further more a halligan shot to the head will make any woman let’s say more willing!!!! Haaaaaaa

The only down side I can see to this is it adds a lot of extra wieght to the saw and could potentally throw you off balance when trying to climb the ladder or when moving onto the roof.

I tried this out with our Stihl, it works just fine. As previously mentioned though, you have to carry the saw by the Halligan. After trying it for a few minutes, I didn’t notice any significant difference so far as weight/balance.
