We’re not even sure what to say about this one. A camper, live fire and a leaf blower… Really?

  1. Evan says:

This is for those departments with budget issues. Cheap positive pressure fan. Budget issue solved by the Home Depot.

  2. Matthew Brown says:

WHY WHY WHY IN GOD’s Name what are they doing?

  3. Joseph Shipman says:

    Seriously?… Come on guys…

  4. Eric says:

WTF Unbelievable dumb ideas like this one, is why the live-burn policies are so strict now

  5. ff_goodnight says:

They should create another website called thestupidestonline.com or the wtfare they doingonline.com or how about the lookatthisstupidtrainingwedidtogetourhelmetsdirtyonline.com…

  6. MetroMedicFF says:

Check their website, silverspringfire.com, they have pics of “Vehicle Fire Training” and they talk about all the explosions and how a pneumatic strut “failed quite dramatically”. I need to resist the urge to email the Chief.

  7. PFDTruck1 says:

Maybe they think our LODD’s are low for this year?? WTF can we say NFPA 1403????

  8. Ryan says:

Not even sure why this made it to a site of this quality. A snapshot in time at a goofy training event that none of us were a part of. I come to this site because it’s educational, not to feed the flames of the “Don’t be that guy” culture sweeping through the fire service like wildfire. Let’s get back to the real truck work!

  9. DMAN72 says:

Usually I get pretty upset when I watch videos like these. Is it wrong that I laughed hysterically the whole time? I’ll give them an “A” for creativity.

  10. Scott says:

Jesus, just when you think you’ve seen real stupidity someone comes along and shows you they’re real proffesionals at it.

  11. acklan says:

Redneck flashover trailer? After the drill they will tap a keg and go cow tipping.

  12. ParadoxEngine says:

GIT ER DOOOOOONNEEE…Cmon Yall git yer bourkes in on it!!!

  13. Derek says:

“hey guys, what do you wanna do for training tonight?”

“we could go bowling with the cones and fire hose again?”

“Hey chief, I got it, my camper broke, we could set it on fire!?”

“good plan guys, go buy the beer, I’ll go grab my leaf blower”

  14. Dave says:

Are You serious. Those guys from the top down should be stripped of their certs and never be allowesd to work in the fire service again. In this day and age, that is pure stupidity.

  15. LAD288 says:

This “training” is absolutely unacceptable!! This is how we hurt and kill our brothers and sisters!!

Here is a video from AZ from a little over a month ago. One of our brothers is lucky to be alive after figting a fire in an RV. Also a reminder why we must wear all of our PPE all of the time!!

    http://www.kpho.com/video/21300180/index.html

  16. ... says:

Dave, I am sure these individuals have no certs to be stripped of even if you wanted too, by the looks of the video. It is interesting training, I will give them that. It kind of does fit the website, the one guy is “venting” with a leaf blower, a bunch of guys are entering, and I am sure on of them searched the fire floor :-P.

Ryan.. that is precisely why it should be on this site!If we don’t point out the stupidity.. it will continue, and with deadly results!

  18. jon says:

It looks like monkeys trying to F@ck a football

  19. Scot says:

This is absolute incompetance and blatant disregard for safety. These fools are the exact reasons why lawsuits occur.

Do these “Chiefs” think they are doing there Fireman good by doing this? What have they accomplished?

The Silver Spring Community Fire Company of Cumberland County, PA gets the official “Idiot of the week” award!

  20. Grony says:

Leaf blower, PPV fan whats the difference, at least the leaf blower is less CFM

  21. BAMMM says:

Gotta love the smooth bore on the camper fire. I’m shocked that they didn’t have a crew on the roof too.

  22. truckie says:

this is the reason why nfpa 1403 is as strict as it is!!! this should get shown to the fire commissioners office..

  23. LTD says:

Alright. I’m speechless. I hope the guys from the Korn Field County Fire Department aka “Hee-Haw” had a good time. Glad to see that everyone was at least in full PPE~including the leaf blower guy? Leaf blower? I don’t want to say KODAK Moment, but I’m left with nothing else!

  24. Jason says:

We are definitely a product of our environment in the fire service, even when that environment is filled with ignorant leaders. Time to clean house. Still can’t believe they’d record it though…

  25. mike says:

my wife said it all after watching the buckeye vid and this one…”I have goose bumps”.

hopefully the ff in buckeye is okay.

    take care, good night

  26. ParadoxEngine says:

    @Evan

Your totally right, its a friggin vehicle fire as far as I’m concerned. 1 or 2 handlines could easily take care of this from a safe distance if needed…just gotta keep an eye out for a propane tank

  27. Jono says:

Its really bad to see that some departments do not have quality training personnel to establish safe and realistic training for their personnel that they supposed to be looking overseeing. I know at least one community that I will NEVER move to…..But maybe I should…so none of their personnel get injured because training like that!!! That so called training (more like a jacka** stunt would have to come to a very, very quick halt!!!

  28. LAD288 says:

Me thinks the “I.C.” had taken one too many donkey kicks to the head!!

  29. Michael says:

I mean really??? WTF.. And this is why life is hell on instuctors like me..

  30. Antiqufirelt says:

Truly, this is exactly why we cannot get decent live fire training anymore. We’re all lumped in with these morons. WHile no one was hurt, it looks like it was by accident. If someone said they burned a guy in there, there’d be no surprise on my face. You cantch the guy who comes out 0:34 from the front? Truly unconscionable. These guys ought to be ashamed, though I assume their too stupid to even suspect ‘nothin.

  31. LTD says:

And going for the salty looking helmet by going into this accident waiting to happen is one hell of a poor excuse. But you KNOW that was the intent here. I would love to hear the commentary when this “training” had concluded. “Man that was a good one, wuddin it Gomer?”

  32. Drew says:

I know these guys. They are on the outskirts of my old town in Central PA. Not suprised they did this. Not suprised they filmed it either.

Shame, there are so many really good, really squared away volunteer organizations in their area. Then this shows up.

  33. Ian says:

The department that was conducting the training was involved in an interesting incident last year as well. I was attending fire training at the Harrisburg Area Community College which is very close to the Silver Spring area and the week before this department was having a chicken BBQ fundraiser. Not only did they not have a stand-by company in place being that they are a volunteer department but when they were dispatched they failed to respond to what was dispatched as a structure fire with entrapment which later ended up being a fatality. This was of course heavily discussed and debated being that it had only happened the week before.

I don’t even know if there is a word to describe the planning and leadership that this department is lacking with their current officers. It is a real shame that the light has now been cast not only on firefighters from Pennsylvania, volunteers and professionals. Let’s face it, when the general public sees this they don’t know which one of the above you, me or they belong to. I hope this sheds some light on they many issues that have been brought up.

  34. Henry says:

Everyone who participated in the “drill” should be removed from the fire service. Remember SAFETY is everyones responsibility. Imagine that you are the one that has to make the visit to the house to tell a loved one “he’s dead because….” Look out for one another and man up when something you see is wrong! Thanks for posting that, maybe it will cause some to think, unlike the ones in the video.

  35. Josh says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if they used gas to light the fire too. I hope someday videos like this are a thing of the past. I makes me very sad to see the disgrace the fire service like this. There should be a few people that are “ASKED TO LEAVE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.”

  36. Evan says:

Dont you mean “LEAF” THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, get it alittle play on words? Get it? No I guess not, oh well

  37. Josh says:

WOW!! After seeing this stupidity, I’m suprised they didn’t put some guys on the roof to vent

  38. DMAN72 says:

Leaf the fire department…I LOVE IT!!!! This reminds me of a water rescue drill we did with a kayak and a weed-eater.

  39. sean says:

did you ever try the one with the rit team and the snowblowe?

  40. Ryan says:

And for some reason we can’t figure out why firefighters are dying in training exercises. It is because of idiots like this why states want to stop firefighters from having live burns.

  41. Mike 971 Truck says:

Are they trying to create a wind driven fire?

  42. Kiwi says:

just because you wear a red helmet doesn’t mean you should be in charge…

  43. Dalmatian90 says:

    Forget the leaf blower*.

At least it’s even safer then kerosene (works wonders on brush piles, by the way).

Disregard even the poor fireground presence of the officers and members.

As Antiqufirlt points out above…there was a person wearing bunker gear and an airpack inside there till 0:34. Ahead of the line, in a motor vehicle. Think about it.

*btw, while I don’t know if it’s true for this department, carrying leaf blowers is common in parts of Pennsylvania and getting to be in my neck of the woods (northeastern Connecticut) — they’re used to build a quick line around large woods fires instead of rakes and brooms. I’m just offering that as a possible reason a leaf blower was handy.

  44. T-Bone says:

I kept waiting for Cousin Eddie to come out and say “Merry Christmas, S#@tter’s full”!

  45. Buck says:

What the video doesn’t show was they were actually cooking chicken in the RV! Remember, this is the company that did not respond to a first due structure fire with a report of someone trapped, because the had to have a barbeque to raise money…..so they killed 2 birds with 1 stone here.

  46. Evan says:

Does anyone know where this department is from? Maybe we can get one of those moron chiefs on here to “try” to defend this awesome training evolution.

  47. TheShortFF says:

As we like to say… “Now that’s a special kind of stupid!”

  48. Ryan says:

I’m speechless. This is clearly a training born out of boredom.

  49. TJ says:

First of all, at least these guys were out training, not watching a video. That’s the end of my positive comments for them. Now much like the rest of the comments to date I find myself asking WTFO? These are the biggest bunch of retards I’ve ever seen in the fire service.

  50. Scotty T says:

I really do not know what to say. I did like the REDNECK FLASHOVER TRAILER comment, and I did utter WTF during the first 5 seconds. It is sad that this stuff still goes on.

  51. 1835wayne says:

I think I have whiplash from shaking my head in disbelief through the whole thing……….

  52. michael says:

was checking out their web page and noticed that noticed that none of them looked to be over the age 25 including chief officers.

There might be a problem with experience. They obviously have no idea about safety. oh yeah you can email any officer. maybe someone will help point them in the right direction

  53. Ted says:

Did anyone notice their fire department logo is a muppet dragging a hose?

  54. `bulldawg says:

I checked out their website, it explained that they received a substantial grant ($125.00)from Homeland Security. They used the grant to replace their aging rakes with a blower. Now one goober with a blower can produce the same cfm as twelve gomers fanning the flames with rakes. Through a rigorous bidding process they saved enough money on the blower to buy two cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon

  55. annonymous says:

ill take line….you grab bar…and you take the leaf blower

  56. Jim Ritchey says:

I hope they are just playing around,(Training) WOW

  57. LAD288 says:

TJ – While I agree with most everything you said, I will have to say that I would not call this training. I would call this being stupid. I would rather see them watching a video rather than doing this B.S. Sounds like maybe some of the “higher-ups” should watch some videos on how do to training that will benifit the department and not put lives at risk unnecessarily.

  58. John Waligora says:

I’m guessing they are oblivious to NFPA 1402 and 1403. Maybe even NFPA all together!!! LMAO at a few of the comments above! Chances are none of those guys will stumble on to this site… If they do, 1hr of reading might be the best training they’ve ever received!

  59. DMAN72 says:

I don’t know guys. This may actually be some kind of NFPA thing. After all, it has no logical application to real world firefighting. HOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! No he didn’t!!!! F’ing right he did!

  60. Rsqtec says:

All I can say is WOW and HOLY SH!T. Why the hell would you use a leaf blower to create a possibe flashover. Why the hell would you make a inside attack on a vehicle fire. And the man with the white hat needs to be drug out back and hit over the head with a rubber hose. Better luck next time on trying to kill or hurt your men/women………..

And you wonder why we have a close calls list.

  61. LAD288 says:

I wonder if their latex gloves that are holding their webbing melted…

  62. forstj says:

    acklan,
this dept is in Pa! Thats abve the Mason line! We know how to fight fire down here…Unlike your brothers in this video!!!

  63. acklan says:

I won’t know about that forstj, since I’m a coonass. We generally consider anything above Shreveport to be Yankees.

  64. Wac1ker says:

This is exactly why you cant do anything without instructors being there. After watching this i think that fire company doesnt see enough fire and they want to get there helmets dirty. If that was me in not going into that. Stick the nozzle in the window and open it up.

  65. DMAN72 says:

Or at the very least, hold your helmet in the RV on a pike pole to get it dirty. That’s what I…..I mean this guy I know one time…

  66. LFD1005 says:

DaGonz “that is precisely why it should be on this site!If we don’t point out the stupidity.. it will continue, and with deadly results!”

    Very true.

This was covered by Dave Statter earlier. Seems the video originally was on YouTube, and after the backlash they got they removed the video. That tells me at least one person in this gaggle of brain surgeons has at least a little sense.

Luckily thebravest was able to get the video and now they have to deal with even more backlash. Hopefully it opens some eyes in that so called department and they see the error of their ways before they become another statistic.

  67. pfd27 says:

DMAN72: “Or at the very least, hold your helmet in the RV on a pike pole to get it dirty. That’s what I…..I mean this guy I know one time…”

Damn, why didn’t I think of that. the next time we smoke an RV…eh…umm…

  68. RT158 says:

This is what you get when you have a state with very little “open burn” restrictions to obide by, and I don’t mean live burn training. I am about 20 minutes from the PA border and know plenty of people there, including relatives (non firefighters) and they can burn just about anything you can think of. Garbage, brush, RVs etc. I wouldn’t doubt for a second that this was done right behind the firehouse!

  69. RT158 says:

I just had to go and check out their website. I found the chimney fire training pictures pretty funny. Interesting selection of ground ladders to access what appears to be the roof of an occupied residence (even though the caption states that it is a training prop). With any luck the owners leaf blower will remain in the garage when they decide to set the chimney on fire! But more importantly, there will be one of those oh so important helmetcams there to provide us with the next round of head scratching.

  70. TJ says:

LAD288, I stand corrected and I do agree with you. I should not have said training. I don’t know what you’d call it, but it’s definitely not training. Thanks for the correction.

  71. MG33 says:

That was classic Keystone Cops SH!T… at least they didn’t decide to do vertical ventilation training while they were at it (SOUND THE ROOF LADS!!!)!

Just watched that YouTube link from Rsqtec and I think I threw up in my mouth a little bit. Was the little kid crying in the backround because that was her daddy in the fireman costume or because they torched her clubhouse for their “public demonstration”. And I’m sure all of the people watching were saying “WOW… that’s why firemen are sooo brave”

  72. local guy says:

To the above comments bashing the PA fire service I just would like to let you know that if you go north, south, east, or west of these guys you will find well educated and highly trained individuals. Please don’t put the rest of us in with them. Its unfortunate we have to deal with it.

  73. RVdealer says:

These are probably the same clowns that run around the Harrisburg Fire Expo with their pagers and radios turned up for everyone to hear, you know just in case the “big one” 10 towns away comes in.

  74. g says:

I believe budget cuts forced the chief to grab JOSE from his gardening duties on his way to this scene and outfit him in full PPE and put to work in a way JOSE had never seen.

  75. Capt.RR says:

We are in a time were budget cuts come in areas. But come on we cant cut SAFTEY. There may have been some vaild training in this clip. I sure didnt see it and it sounds like alot of you didnt either. I liked the idea of it being a redneck flashover prop. Hell on my dairy we have a lot of empty trailer houses, Since my Chief keeps hiring my “JOSE” to be FF at my dept. Really g What crazy idea you have. I dont know what dept you work for and I really dont want to know. But the safty and pride of this job should not go to the lowest bider. Here were I work N.M.F.P. ( North Metro Fire Protection) We take pride in our dept and commuinty. And the people we protect dont just want the cheapest payroll staff. So to close this “g” please find the pride in the fire services and were it proud.

    Stay Safe Brothers
    Capt RR

  76. acklan says:

Captain RR are you realy a captain or do you just playing one on the internet?
There is no valid training that would require the use of the leaf blower and entry of fire fighters into that motor home. No matter how tight the budget gets. The only good that came of that video is showing what not to do, and thank goodness no one was injured.

  77. pander34279 says:

    Check 1:53 – “West Si-yeeede!”

    Unfrickinbelievable.

I’ll echo every one of the NFPA 1403 comments – these guys ought to be ashamed. Anyone contacted them? I’d be interested to hear their take on it and just what they were thinking with this embarrassment. Glad no one was hurt, but seriously, this kind of crap HAS to stop.

  78. brickcity1306 says:

LOL,, Jeezzzz I go away for a while and look what I miss !!! Ok funny on a scary side???? Yes,, but he did have it pushing for a while,, why who knows why. A true testament of why there is a warning or a toaster that says “do not use in shower”

  79. brickcity1306 says:

Oh and Capt. Dairy, or RR or whoever you are. I don’t know where you come from but my little slice of heaven training is darn near free. County training center and state programs for continuing education as well as officer training and all the administration classes you could dream of. There is no excuse for lack of or unsafe training.
    Stay low and safe

  80. g says:

I bet if you could fit the blower in a rubber glove someone would of came up with the “bright” idea of doing it already.

  81. R says:

Ever heard of NFPA 1403! Fire the Chief and the training Chief (village idiot)

  82. ex-chief says:

How can I download a copy of this to show at a training session?

  83. DMAN72 says:

I swore I was done commenting on this, but (Keep in mind I still think this is hilarious), but sometime, somewhere, someone had to think of this idea. I give them an “A” for creativity. As for NFPA 1403, who f#$king cares? NFPA standards are written by people who stand to make money off of selling firemen shit that they don’t need by making it a “standard.” I know Im going off on a rant, but seriously, I don’t think NFPA 1403 has anything to do with this. Still, funny as hell!

  84. LAD288 says:

I still don’t know. Did they pull the meter or not??

  85. countysunderdog says:

Well since noone has hit this, did anyone stabilize the trailer? they could have used a garden hoe to deflate the tires……Or im sure they have some other tool in their toolbox of stupid tricks.

  86. truckster88 says:

hahahah omg reallly? yea thats some quality training….NOOOTTT

  87. acklan says:

Come on guy, cut’em some slack. Can’t you tell they atleast burned a prop with a ladder already attached. The roof is already laddered (In case the training instructor orders they vent the roof).
    Truckies forever!

  88. Lieut59 says:

great training if your training your men to go to a memorial service

  89. acklan says:

    Lieut59
“great training if your training your men to go to a memorial service”

If you want them to be the guests of honor at a memorial service.

  90. youngin says:

this looks like one of those “hey ya’ll watch this moments” or even “hold my beer watch this SH*T moments” . you would think that the white hat would know better . but no . i am just glad no one was hurt .

  91. Jon says:

My mom is in charge of the public safety and emergency preparedness for the county this is in… they actually did this at the county training grounds.. and the day after this happened the public safety division of the local government started a legal investigation into the obvious infractions, and it has also extended into larger agencies for investigation also… on a side note this is the same company that was holding a chicken bbq about a year ago when hit out for a trailer fire with entrapment, and there chief did not let crews respond and made them stay at the bbq and had mutual aid compnies respond with a 10+ minute response… which did lead to a fatality… some people just dont get it

  92. PAfireman says:

Okay after reading the comments for the last twenty minutes. One the department is full of retards that need to get out of the fire service. Rubber gloves and a leaf blower? Mind as well wear a body condom and throw in a bale of hay. The training these guys have has to be very limited more likely no certifications and or Essentials of firefighting which is required by state. Two PA State fire pretty much elimated any acquired structures live burns, haven’t seen on in years. Third. Please do not bash all PA departments just because one or two retarded departments just so happened to go off the deep end, doesn’t mean we all have. Most companies I know in my area require FF1 to even think about being interior. And Jon please keep us all posted I for one would like to hear how this one turns out, hopefully with the closeing of a department or a change in command or something.
    Everyone Goes Home

  93. Jason says:

This video needs a banjo music soundtrack.

  94. Mike says:

Hey. Nobody or training is totally useless. It can always be used as a bad example!

  95. Walt Lewis says:

Like it was said several times- WTF? That’s why our Live Fire Evolutions are so hard to get approved because of assinine maneuvers like that. Usually, I’ll give those in the video the benefit of the doubt, but that was pure stupidity.

  96. Bobby says:

Beleve what you want but this is a training fire look at the bail of staw/hay they are trying to get it rocken with the leafblower!!!!!!!!

  97. Frank says:

That has got to be the dumbest thing I ahve ever seen.

  98. SIDAMN69 says:

HMMMMMM MY ONLY THOUGHTS WAS NEW LEATHER HELMETS BEING SEASONED

  99. Scuba Steve Truck 1 says:

“Like trying to watch a group of monkeys F@ck a football”

Looks to me like a bunch of retards trying to vent an RV fire with a leafblower.

“Did they pull the meter or not”

I have never lolled so much. The guys in the kitchen thought I was dying.

  100. Capt. Todd says:

“Smoke em if you got em boys, this may take awhile.” “Hey Jeb put that there ventilation tool in there and run it for awhile. My BUD is getting warm and the NASCAR race is tomorrow.”
