Interesting Structure

I'm not quite sure where to start with this description...

These pictures were sent in by Lt. Scott Egan from Orange County Engine 50. He found this "structure" during an area survey. Originally he didn't have his camera with him, but knew this find could not go un-photographed. He promptly went back to the firehouse, retrieved his camera, and returned to take these shots. Upon his return he spoke to the owner..occupant... whatever.. He spoke to the person who owns this vessel. Lt. Egan points out that this is not located near any body of water. Read on to discover why this is such an interesting find.

Above is side.. well it's the port side. The owner states that this is a project for his Fathers retirement. This boat has been entirely built in place. The project began 20 years ago (that's not a typo, it began twenty years ago.) Someday this thing will be moved to the ocean.

Notice the proximity of this utility pole. This pole will have to be removed in order to eventually move the vessel.

Here's where it gets interesting, in the photo above you can see that they added air conditioning and electrical service to the vessel. The owner states these utilities were simply added for comfort while working in the boat. When asked, the owner very quickly pointed out that no one "lives" in the structure.

At least they have a sense of humor about it. The sign has their last name (removed to protect the innocent) and the title "Ark Builders." Followed by the biblical verse "...and then the rain came..."

Here's a shot of the street. Lt. Egan points out that it is even a little narrow for an Engine in some places. It sure will be interesting to see them move this thing. Apparently Code Enforcement started questioning them about it a few years ago. The owner was not clear about the outcome, but to me, it looks obvious. This thing is here to stay.

PS: The house next store is for sale if anyone is interested....It's listed as Great neighborhood, with friendly neighbors.

No it's not really I just wanted to see what you'd say about that.

Thanks Scott for thinking about us and getting us the shots of this interesting structure.-Jimm-
