Cover that Bowstring

Throwback Thursday post: Original posting date June 29th, 2007.

Firefighter Scott Lyons from FDNY Tower Ladder 79 sent in these photos of another deceptive building feature. It’s the infamous parapet wall hiding a bowstring truss roof. It’s important to remind yourself when readingĀ a structure that certain occupancies are more prone to using bowstring truss roof assemblies. A large open span with few (if any) interior columns should be a good sign. As we have said many times in past posts, nothing beats getting to the rear of the structure in order to get the best possible read of the building.
