Challenging Extrication

On top of everything else, many Truck Companies find themselves tasked with vehicle extrication. So it only makes sense that we include some extrication related material. I think you’ll find this video good enough to get the discussion started. All I can say is: Man that dude is LUCKY! –Jimm-

Great video. I wonder if going through the metal of the trailer may have been easier than lifting it, although there was a pretty large wrecker on scene. Something else to ponder, pull that trailer away from the car! Hard to tell how or if they had it stabilized but once an obstacle is moved, remove it from the work area. I will say this, that’s one lucky illegal!

Was that a soft (canvas) side trailer? If so that might have been what saved him. It was just the boxes not the trailer that were resting on the vehicle.

Thank God for the soft sided trailers huh!!! Good call on removing the cargo from the trailer…If you have the personell on scene to effect it.

What a great call to pick appart. I know that on an extrication of this magnitude we need to work as quickly as possible, but we also need to take our safety, and the safety of the vehicle occupant into account. This guy was absolutely lucky throughout the whole experience, especially when you consider that there was no supplemental cribbing with the lift, and no c-spine precautions until after he got our and walked away. Now I will never say that I have the answers to a call I watch on video, but I would like to point out that there is a safer way to lift! My other point is that crews need to stay out of the fall zone as much as humanly possible. Stay safe, and crib as you lift. Thanks guys for a great video.

WOW. Judging by the other comments, it looks like this was a soft sided trailer. Still, I can not believe he walked away from that, let alone got himself out of the car after ff’s opened it up.
